1. Consider what Domain name you want for your webpage. The Domain Name is the address of the webpage, exampel www.mightofmike.dk like this page. You need a domain to make your webserver available to the public. You can find more information on how to get and set up a domain under Domain Setup.
2. You also need a static public ip address, that you can point your domain toward. How you get this depend on your internet supplier, try looking at there webpage, or contact them.
3. Before setting up a web server, make sure you have all the hardware and software needed to complete this guide. My Webserver is running on a 8 years old (2009) Intel Duo E7500 2.93GHz. Windows server 2012 minimum equirements are very low, and can easily run on old computers. Requirements: processor 1,4 GHz, RAM 512Mb
Step 1 Creating a bootable USB
In step one make the Bootable USB needed to install Windows Server 2012 R2. To create a bootable USB, use the downloaded
program Rufus and the downloaded ISO file of Windows Server 2012 R2.
1. Opening Rufus you get a menu like below.
Step 2 Start the installation from USB
To start the install, you need to boot the computer/Server from the USB. How to boot from USB depend on the manufacturer of the computer. Normally it is one of the F1-F12 keys, but you can google your computer model. Boot from USB can also be disabled and if you are using a old model you might need to go to the bios and set boot order, check the video below to solve issues.
Step 3 Installation of Windows Server 2012 R2
3.1 Picking language, Pick the language you prefer for your server.
3.2 Pick Version to install, pick standard 2012 R2 with GUI
3.3 Accept the licence
3.4 Pick Custom Installation
3.5 Pick the drive to install Windows Server 2012 R2 on. It can be a good idea to format the disk first.
3.6 Installation is now running, and will restart when done. It can take a while.
3.7 Create a Password. Create a safe password, dont use any standard passwords here, and write it down.
